LA substrate modification with cryoballoon ablation
3-D voltage mapping of the left atrium and pulmonary veins before and after ablation of left atrial roof with cryoballoon
Left atrial size is one of the most important indicator of ability to restore and maintain normal rhythm. With cryoballoon we can freeze left atrial roof and " downsize " left atrium , which will help to maintain normal rhythm. The other options to manage large left atrium are hybrid procedures, ablation of posterior wall and abnormal electrical activity in the posterior atrial wall and other sites. All those approaches helps to maintain normal rhythm, but not necessarily results in cure. Atrial fibrillation procedures in general more curative, when atrium is still normal size and more palliative , when atrium is large or has extensive scar tissue.
